AUCKLAND, New Zealand — 23 September 2025 — A growing number of globally mobile investors are choosing New Zealand not just for tax or financial advantages, but for the promise of a healthier, more connected way of life. New government figures confirm strong demand under the revised Active Investor Plus (AIP) visa, while international wealth reports point to record levels of millionaire migration driven by lifestyle priorities.
As of 31 August, Immigration New Zealand reported 308 applications under the new AIP settings, representing a potential minimum investment of NZ$1.875 billion. Of these, 197 have already been approved in principle, and 39 families have been granted residency, with a committed NZ$248.8 million flowing into the economy to date. The United States leads with 129 applications, followed by strong interest from China, Hong Kong, Germany, and Singapore.
“Lifestyle migration isn't about chasing lower tax bills. For our clients, it's about designing a time-rich, purpose-led life in a place where nature, community, and connectivity are world-class,” said Mischa Mannix Opie, Director of Client Experience at Greener Pastures New Zealand. “With Auckland ranked among the world's top-ten most liveable cities in 2025, and a nationwide environment that balances safety, culture, and opportunity, New Zealand is now firmly on the radar for families who want long-term wellbeing as much as financial certainty.”
Under the simplified settings introduced in April, investors can apply via two categories: Growth (minimum NZ$5 million) or Balanced (minimum NZ$10 million). Approval in principle is currently averaging just 23 working days, giving families and family offices the ability to plan relocations with confidence. Most committed capital so far has been placed into Invest New Zealand-approved managed funds and bonds.
Global data reinforces the trend. The 2025 Henley Private Wealth Migration Report projects a record 142,000 millionaires will relocate worldwide this year, with lifestyle, stability, and education cited as primary motivators. Similarly, the Knight Frank Wealth Report 2025 highlights a pivot among HNWIs toward destinations that combine investment potential with liveability, resilience, and natural assets.
For many families, New Zealand offers the rare combination of secure residency pathways, access to global capital markets, and day-to-day life shaped by mountains, coastlines, and a strong sense of community — a shift from the boardroom to the backcountry that is reshaping how global wealth defines “home.”
