The Luxury of Learning Something New: Inside Kindred's Take on the Skillcation

KEYSTONE, CO — [September 2025]Kindred Resort, opening this December at the base of Keystone's River Run Gondola, is bringing a fresh take to one of travel's fastest-growing trends: the skillcation. For the luxury traveler who wants more than rest and recharge, skillcations offer the chance to return home having learned something new. Kindred's take? Make that process as beautiful, seamless, and welcoming as the setting itself.

One of the resort's signature experiences, Snow Virgins Welcome, is designed specifically for first-time skiers — particularly adults who never had the chance to learn when they were younger. The package removes the intimidation factor by offering a personal concierge, curated gear kits, and multi-day private instruction in a low-pressure, high-comfort environment.

At the heart of the experience is the Virgin Concierge — a dedicated team member who meets guests right at their hotel room door on day one. From there, they walk each guest through the entire first-morning process: how to wear ski boots, how to carry gear, where to go, and what to expect. It's personal, discreet support that transforms what can be an overwhelming moment into one that feels calm, confident, and even exciting.

“We're seeing more adults use travel as a way to revisit things they never had the opportunity to try — and skiing is one of those bucket list experiences,” said Raya Roll, Director of Sales and Marketing at Kindred Resort. “Our goal was to create an experience that feels less like a lesson and more like an invitation. We meet guests where they are, and help them find confidence in the process.”

Snow Virgins Welcome includes:

  • A Private Virgin Concierge to assist with gear, logistics, and first-day guidance

  • Full equipment rentals and lift ticket support

  • Multi-day private ski lessons, tailored to adults or families

  • A “Snow Virgins” Welcome Kit with Kindred fleece, retro trail maps, hot hands, and a cheeky enamel pin

  • Daily après rituals, including celebratory cocktails or cocoa at a private firepit or reserved seating in the Kindred Spirits Après Lounge

The experience is part of Kindred's larger commitment to thoughtful programming for first-time travelers, late bloomers, and curious learners. In addition to ski-focused offerings, Kindred also partners with local artists for hands-on creative sessions (like custom snow globe–making), guided forest meditations, and culinary workshops — all available à la carte or as part of seasonal packages.

“Skillcations are reshaping what luxury travel means today,” said Dan Dohner, General Manager of Kindred Resort. “Our guests are craving experiences that feel intentional and immersive — and we're proud to offer learning moments that are just as elegant and fulfilling as the leisure ones.”

Kindred Resort opens December 2025 and will feature 107 hotel rooms, 95 luxury residences, three on-site restaurants, a full-service spa, ski valet, and year-round programming designed for the modern mountain traveler.
